📘 Performance Management (PM) – Course Description
Performance Management (PM) is a fundamental course designed to develop learners’ skills in applying management accounting techniques to support effective business planning, control, and decision-making. The course covers the use of costing methods, budgeting, and performance measurement tools to evaluate and improve organizational performance.

Learners will explore how financial and non-financial information can be used to support strategic and operational decisions. Emphasis is placed on understanding the behavioral and organizational impacts of performance management systems, enabling learners to design and implement effective performance measurement and control frameworks.

This course is ideal for students pursuing professional accounting qualifications such as ACCA, as well as finance and business degrees, preparing them for roles in management accounting, financial planning, and operational control.

✅ Learning Outcomes of PM By the end of the course, learners should be able to: 1. Apply Costing and Budgeting Techniques Use various costing methods (e.g., absorption, marginal, activity-based costing) for decision-making. Prepare and assess budgets, and apply budgeting techniques for planning and control. 2. Support Decision-Making with Relevant Information Identify and apply relevant financial and non-financial information to support short- and long-term decisions. Conduct cost-volume-profit (CVP) analysis and other decision-support tools. 3. Evaluate Performance Using Standard Costing and Variance Analysis Calculate and interpret variances (e.g., price, efficiency, sales mix) to assess operational performance. Recommend actions based on variance analysis. 4. Understand Behavioral and Strategic Factors Evaluate the impact of performance management systems on employee motivation and behavior. Align performance measures with strategic objectives. 5. Analyze and Interpret Performance Data Use key performance indicators (KPIs) and other metrics to assess efficiency and effectiveness. Apply performance measurement in different sectors, including public and non-profit organizations. 6. Communicate Management Accounting Information Present financial data and insights clearly to support business decision-making and performance improvement.
